Carb woes?

Got a challenge for ya....Bike runs real good and strong with excellent throttle response(can rap it), have not had a dyno tune (also have the DTT but not on yet...still have SE module at this point). Anyway, carb has a thunderslide kit. Has always had a little da...dit...da...dit...da at low speed/low throttle. However...went to Austin past week and when I got close to Austin and then in Austin traffic, bike began spitting as if it had water in the gas. My thought was it must be the coil breaking down (long term travel, coil very hot) and took it to Cowboy Harley there (they had great attitude and likeable). The tech took the carb apart and told me the spring in these kits are too light...and he and the service manager suggested a larger carb. They said that basically the slide just bounces up and down when in the transition zone causing the dit...da...dit...da. Don't think they checked the coil. Told me plugs looked good, nice and tan. Rode over to the Texas Hills and when I got there, the bike really ran bad at low throttle....just kept the rpms up. On the return trip, the closer I got to home the better it ran...Now back to minimal da...dit...da...dit...da again. Elevation difference probably isn't more than four or five hundred feet...Couldn't be elevation could it? So what ya think?? Is this a Dakota Kid/Woods issue?? HEEELLP......

500 ft wouldn't make a damn bit of difference unless you were on the ragged edge of lean to begin with.
Humidity on the other hand is something that drag racers pay attention to.
Large humidity changes can effect mixture ratios in high performance motors.
This points back to your bike's fuel / air ratio.
Have the electrics checked; (coil) if no problems are found, then it's your fuel system.
You could of gotten a bad tank of gas going into town?

I didn't think the slight elevation would do it...And I did think about water in the tank however I went through several tanks while in Austin and it seemed to continue...may have taken several tanks to run the water out even though using STP water treatment. Still doing it though since home, only minor...May have always been there....got water in tank, water gone and now back to "normal". Still need to check coil/wires then gonna go further....Thanks!!!

Run a can of Seafoam through it and see if it helps. Best I have seen for clearing out water, trash, etc. and it won't hurt anything. With it being an intermittent problem, it really does sound fuel related.

You are exactly right about seafoam...I'll get some tomorrow.it's good stuff. I talked to my mechanic briefly today...he also pondered about some type of vacuum switch that advances timing...we're going to look into it some more...Thanks guys!!
