Same problem
Hoping to see an answer on this as I have a very similar problem. 92 Sporty with 1200 conversion, hardly ran for the last year. Fired it up a few weeks ago and it had a real bad gap at the initial throttle; giving it gas made the carb sneeze and almost kill the engine. Once it began to accelerate it would run ok but it was difficult to maintain an even speed becaue it wouldn't idle correectly, you were either accelerating or coasting, and of course it wouldn't idle with some help from the choke. I rebuilt the carb and shimmed the main jet needle. Now it runs better than it has since I bought it, better acceleration, smooth sound, the only problem is I still can't get it to idle. If I stop the choke at about 1/4 pull it will idle fine and run great but as soon as I push it in all the way it dies. I've tried playing with idle mixture screw, the idle speed adjustment screw and the throttle cable adjustment and I just can't get it to run. My thoughts are maybe the slow air jet is still clogged or the throttle cable and/or idle cable have stretched.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
