Do I need a bigger carb?

My build should show in my signature. The head work and the gear-driven cams only have about 300 miles on them. I am still running an unmodified stock CV carb.

Question is, have I outgrown the stock carb? I have no intentions of modding the carb. If this carb is too small, I will go to the CV 44mm carb and have it professionally installed and tuned.

The bike has not been dyno tuned since the build. I wanted to get some miles on the new cams, lifters and valves before I took it in for tuning. But I am curious if I should go ahead and replace the carb before I spend the money for the dyno tune. I really don't want to spend it twice just for a carb change. A 2 hour dyno tune costs almost as much as the carb.

I don't know how much it matters, but I live at 5,000 feet in elevation and occasionally ride at higher elevations - up to 8,000 feet. Air gets pretty thin up there.

Would appreciate any advice.

Hasn't been dyno'd yet.

your carb should have sufficent CFM to handle you motor..

you elevation is what will get you low numbers most of all..

My stock carb handled my 95inch FatBoy with no problem at sea level to 14k ... it had the S&S .570 cams in it and the S&S 89cc big valve heads that were worked over and a very free flowing exhaust.. never had an issue for flow at any time..

I am now running a Road Glide that has been bumped to the 103 with Baisley heads and the Andrews 54G cams..
I am torn between running the stock TB (injected) which is 40mm or my Gerolamy Dual TB.. they both flow well enough to handle my motor at 6,000 feet ( I am in Colorado now)...

I think you will find that with a good tune you will be very happy with the stock carb..
By the way my son's WideGlide 95 motor and stock carb (S&S .510 cams and VH exhaust, no head work yet..) loves the altitude and the stock carb..
