EFI to Carb

Hi I'm trying to put the parts together to swap from the old M&M fuel injection to carb. At the same time I will go from 88 to 95" what size and type of carb would be the best.

No, I did that to mine. Go with the 42 Mik. Bolt on and ride.

i am lookn at starting to collect parts to upgrade to simplicity, but i plan on using s&s. my question. should i use th h-4 and have th oil blown in my face seting th timing or use th german built module (p3)for th twin cam that runs off th crank sensor. also is th crank sensors th same.i ride a 97 flhtci. i am a retired auto mechanic/tech, well versed in all fazes of work, but as i have found; bike efi is very different.i read all kids of stuff but it is hard to find some one that has done it and can say, by this and do this. most maybe thdo or you might be able to. i am the fellow that wants the answer and will know when it comes. thanks.!!

I just swapped mine over from the MM system and went with the Mik. 42, 165 main, 22.5 pilot, -97 needle on the third slot. The last tank of gas I checked was two-up about 65-75 mph and got 34.7 and it runs great, I get about 37 one-up. I used the Pingle fuel valve and plugs and gutted the tank of fuel pump, filter and lines. The tank probably holds an extra quart now..ha You can pm me and I will tell you what size drill bit you need for the Pingle fuel screen to fit perfect in the bottom of the tank. I have to find it in the garage. I got mine at a pawn shop for a dollor, they are about $20.00 at Sears or Harbor Frieght and are they 1/2 in drive. Another thing, buy a manifold without the MAP sensor hole.!! I bought a SE with hole that was 1/2 price at Harley and blew the plug out that I put in, they dont run very well sucking that much air..haha Tapped it and JB welded a plug in, its still there..

You will need a 9/16 drill bit and a 1/2 in drive drill to drill out the tank bungs for a fuel valve to go in without crimping the screen on it..

also for those that mayb lookn into swappind th efi for a carb, there is a system out there that is made in germany that you dont have to use a map sensor. all you need is the modual, carb and intake , and th tank conversion that i just asked masonman about. ( or switch tanks)

Yes the pingle has on, off and reserve.. it looks like a new Rolex on the bike..ha Very well made, alittle pricey but what the heck.. it was right at 150.00 for the fuel valve and the bung plug kit from Pingle. If you or anyone out there ever needs a part for a Mikuni call Fox dist inc..630-513-9700 I think this guy new what I needed before he picked up the phone!! Any Mik part number off the top of his head.. $20.00 min. On the reserve thing.. those fuel lines are welded into the tank and they neck down to the line about an inch off the bottom of the tank. So I guess I give up that inch because I didnt have anything to cut it off closer..and its tight in there. My girlfriend says " you'll always have gas in your tank".. yeah gas that I cant use!! haha

Just one other thing, I cut the lines out with a hack saw and then flushed the tank with a garden hose. Then I took a magnet to the inside to pick up any shavings. I had a strong one at first but it kept sticking to things in the tank.. Then I picked up a pizza refrig. mag and used that..not as powerful but still picked tiny slivers up..it was fun kept me busy for a couple of days.. its alittle cold natured now like any carb but Im glad I did it.. I got the Mikuni from a friend thats running a tricked out CV on his 2002 RK he said the Mikuni has better throttle response over the CV, he ran them both on his bike so I take his word on it.. The Mik has a accelerator pump I guess the CV does not.. I can tell you mine is snappy.. it dont play around when you twist on it..ha He did say the CV gets about 2-3 mpg better but at a cost of performance. I can niether confirm nor deny that..Im running his old Mikuni..

thanks for th info. i am just starting to collect th parts for th swap, and money is real tight. it will take awhile. but i have a brother that is building a 124 cid for his 2000 road king classic. he had picked up extra sheet metal off th inter net and has painted it black with th ol school flame job. he is changing everything bit th head light. he is th person that turned me on to th german made electinics that you dont need a vac sensor, as it reads top dead center off th crank sensor.
i think he will have a sweet ride and hope to get him to post pix her and on th road king owners thread when finished. that is taking awhile, so it may be a month or so before you all get to see it.
as for mine, i dont want to make you all too invious, so i just keep my pix to the web site. www.ttmc.net

Thunderheart

The Thunderheart Ignition on my bike just reads the crank sensor. You dont need the cam sensor with a carb. I like it so far and its tuneable also.. it has pre sets to choose from and software and link cable to dyno it if you want.. good luck to you and have fun.
