EFI to carb problem

took me more time to research this swap than to actually do it! (being a master auto technician for the past 8 years may have helped)
wiring was very easy BUT i have one problem

i swapped from a delphi EFI on a 2003 night train to an S&S super e with a brand new carb-style coil and a used ICM

fired right up with the first touch of the starter buton

here's the glitch though:
as soon as i start the motor the engine light comes on (ran the flash code and came up with codes 24, 25 and 42)
24 and 25 are for the coil (hi/low/shorted)
i have nothing in any of my service manuals for a code 42 though

i tried to take it up and down the block to jet the carb, but as soon as i hit (well, atleast what i think is) the tranisition from the intermediate jet to the main jet it breaks up bad (feels like more of a spark miss than anything else)

thinking i needed to jet up i swapped in a few larger main jets

no dice

definetly a spark problem while under load

checked the spark at idle with my spark tester and it looked healthy

this would seem to agree with the 2 trouble codes i have for the coil

i TRIPLE checked all my wiring making sure that:
1)nothing is shorted to ground
2)nothing is shorted to voltage
3)power is where it is supposed to be, when it is supposed to be
4)ground is where it is supposed to be, when it is supposed to be
5)good continuity on all circuits from and to the ICM

i am thinking i got a bad ICM.......(i did buy it used offa ebay)

i tried running the EFI coil, but had this probelm so i ran to the harley dealer and grabbed a brand new carb coil
no dice, same symptoms

at a loss here really.....bike ran great with the EFI, bought a street glide last year, so this one is now the barhopper (even though i dont drink anymore)

any help would be appreciated!

are you loosing the crank postion sensor input? sounds like the ignition is loosing its postition..

you cant use a EFI coil as it has a very different resistance than the carb coil..

good luck

not sure if i am loosing the crank sensor input
(checked the wiring on the circuit though- everything was ok before the swap, circuit checked out A-OK)

yes, i am thinking that maybe by attempting to use the EFI coil at first i fried the ICM

like i said i swapped over to the correct coil tonite and still the same deal

feels like i am hitting the rev limiter if i give it anything more than say 1/4 to 1/3 throttle

this is the part number on the ICM:

32568-00A

i am also wondering if this is the early ICM and it is looking for a cam position signal (which, being a 2003 this bike does not have)

an out of tune carb would not cause these codes, would it? i wouldnt think so..........

also has no codes stored for the crank sensor

thanx so far!

I think you hit the nail on the head. I'd bet the ignition module is for early TC's with cam position sensor. Look for a SE Adjustable MAP ignition module for carbed bikes. Might find one on eBay and it's doesn't require the cam position sensor.

yes sir......wrong module

referenced the part # and it is for a 2000 softail...which is why it is looking for the cam sensor signal, poor thing doesnt know if its coming or going on my bike

i know it is going LOL
