mikuni/HD choke cable

I'm putting back together a 04 Sportster for a wife if a friend who passed away a couple of months ago.
It was an 883 and he was in the process of making it into a 1200.
He also bought a Mikuni 42-10 for it.
When I was swapping over the choke cable, the instructions said to use the Mikuni nut with the HD cable. The end of the cable doesn't go into the Mikuni nut.
I'm not sure if he got the right kit as the box says it's for an 03 and earlier 1200 Sportster.
Any thoughts and/or suggestions?
Thanks.

Call the techs at SUDCO.
Give em your Mik model and what you have for a choke assembly.
They will fix you up quick.

you can get their install instructions from mikuni.com

I just installed on on my bike, using the HD choke cable.

My bike is a 1340 EVO ,,,,, maybe it's different for the Sporster

The instructions are very clear in this regard.

remove the Harley spring and plunger from the cable, install the Mikuni spring and plunger

You use the Mikuni spring and plunger, you use the HD nut ..... any other combination will leave the plunger off the seat and the bike will be running rich ALL THE TIME

I just COPIED this, directly from their install maual, for the Sportser, page 2, look closely at item number 5:

Installation:
Choke Cable to Carburetor:
1. Remove the choke cable from the stock carburetor.
2. Remove the Harley spring and plunger from the Harley
choke cable.
3. Remove the Mikuni spring and plunger from the Mikuni
carburetor.
5. Install the Mikuni spring and plunger onto the Harley
choke cable. Change nothing else; be sure to use the
Harley plastic nut, not the Mikuni nut.
6. Install the new assembly into the Mikuni. Be careful to
only gently tighten the plastic nut.

you can read it here:
