Mod my CV or replace?

Hello All,
After research and help from our sponsors, I have my motor back together. Please see below for motor recipe. My question is: What changes / mods do I need to make to my CV 40? or, Should I just replace it? My riding style is mostly around town with a cruise out to the coast a couple times a a year. Love rolling through the low end torque. I do not see red line much at all. The bike is a '99 Night train, 240 rear, chain final drive (stock ratio), TF-1000 primary, the bike is for solo riding only, I am 6 foot 4 at 235 lbs. Did I mention that I am after all the bottom end grunt I can get? The pipes are Hooker rebel short staggered with quiet baffles. I know these are not the right pipes for torque; but, I just have to have the drag pipe look and sound. Any mods to the pipes for better torque?

Build:
  • '99 EVO 80 inch .005 over
  • JE 10.5:1 forged pistons
  • Woods 6H cam w/ Woods 160 springs
  • new HD lifters
  • Andrews CM adjustable push rods
  • TP roller rockers (stock ratio)
  • HD heads - mild bowl blending - 1.9 intake / stock exh - CC'd at 84 each - cleaned up ports and chambers
  • Compression releases
  • Crane Hi4E ign

Make sure you jet it right and enjoy. I have a motor built to pretty close to the same specs - a carb with a DynoJet kit being the only difference. As for power, its nice.... real nice. Oh ya, 50 mpg riding two up isn't bad either...

I agree, don't get rid of the CV. You can upgrade it with a ThunderJet kit, they are about 45 bucks from Jireh. I have the one for the CV here, wrong one for my super G carb. As for the exhaust, I put a set of torque cones in my buddies twincam softail. He was runnin straight pipes and complained of a loss of lowend. I just pulled the pipes, put the cones in the head end of the exhaust and bolted them back up. He noticed it right away. You can also do the washer welded to the bolt trick. You will make a "lollipop" with a washer and a bolt, and insert them at the end of your pipes. You have to drill a hole in the bottom of the pipe. Then you just turn the washer until you find the happy medium your looking for. All it does is create the back pressure needed to scavenge exhaust better with drag pipes. Also, you didn't mention if the pipes were 1 3/4 inch or 2. If they are 2 in, your not going to make them better. 1 3/4 in pipe that's it. Unless your running a 100 in motor or bigger.
