S&S super E carbs...whats the good ,bad, and ugly

there is a large indy shop south of here with several good wrenches working there. they say i'll see more performance out of my bike ( 98 evo , stage one and just had them put in an ev27 ) if i put a super E on her.
They aren't trying to sell me one really, said i could find a better deal on ebay or something than they could give. i was just talking to them about what i should do next . really thought they would say head work but they said carb first, then the heads if i couldn't do things at the same time. Will an S&S really do even a small amount better ?? I've always heard the stock carb can be made to perform just as good.

Your stock CV carb can be made to perform well. Having said that, I have a Super G on my 103. Even on an E carb, you need to make sure it has the air bleed circuit added and an added bonus is the Thunder Jet third circuit. This really helps smooth out an S&S and makes it easy to tune.

If your guy says "What's an air bleed?" or doesn't seem familiar with it or the Thunder Jet, start looking for another guy. Seriously.

If you're looking at S&S carbs, then you owe it to yourself to look at XXX Carbs in Texas. http://www.xxxcarburetors.com/
Read all about them and what they do to an S&S. Then make up your own mind.

Triple X carbs

When i was at 90hp i switched from the stock cv carb(which had every mod known to man done to it) to a stock S&S 'e'. The difference was very noticable--VERY. bike pulled harder everywhere. Then when I switched to Leineweber T5 cams instead of the andrews TW-50's I sent my carb to Triple X what a difference!!!! I even swapped a stock carb back and forth. I am sold---Bob at TRIPLE X was apleasure to work with and his work was top notch. I have the air bleed mod, accel pump and bowl mod, throttle shaft cut, & a thunderjet installed. That put me at 109.9HP 118TQ.

another question. If a person just orders a new S&S kit, how close is the jetting that comes with it to being what ya need ?

S&S kits come with jetting guidelines. Makes it pretty simple....
