Question on A/C

I am looking at putting on new pipes, a/c, and re-jet the carb. Looking at the Arlen Ness Big Sucker A/C, and I see that for about $20 more, I can get a chrome backing plate.
Anyone know what this does for the A/C? Don't really mind spending a little extra if I actually get something out of it - but as far as I can see the backing plate isn't visible anyway, so guessing that this would have something to do with performance, but what??

The reflection of the air molecules off the chrome causes less resistance. Less resistance means the air moves faster. Air moving faster means your bike goes faster.

So THAT's why everyone loves chrome! How much faster do you think I could go if I dipped the whole bike in chrome??

Well, that was actually my point - what would it get me... $10 each for a couple of ears sticking out? no thanks
