Angry Super G leaking fuel from overflow line

I have a Super G shorty on a 2002 Heritage TC88. Suddenly, fuel began leaking out of the overflow on the carb. I removed the bowl, and needle, etc, all appears to be ok, and the float does not hang up. Anyone have an idea why is carb may be leaking from the overflow?

Is your float air tight? Take it out, put it in a cup of water, and hold it under. If it bubbles......... your float doesn't hold the needle up, stopping the flow of gas. Also, shake it. Does it sound/feel like there's liquid in the float?

How much gas leaks out? The amount of the bowl and fuel line? If your vacuum petcock is holding, that's all you should get, right?

Be sure the tank is venting as it should.
And...There may have been a speck of dirt in the float valve. If it happens again, turn the fuel petcock OFF, and run the engine until it stops. Then turn the petcock ON and start the engine. This will/should flush any deris thru the float valve.

Thank You

Thanks for both of your input. This bike does not have a vacum operated petcock, it has an after market petcock. I agree, if it had a vacum petcock, it would only leak until the bowl emptied.
It will continue to leak indefinetely as long as I have the fuel turned on.
The float valve appears to be clean.
I am going to try the water test with the float, very good suggestion.
Thanks once again. I will let you all know the outcome.

Leak

I'd bet that there is/was just a piece of dirt between the needle and the seat.
If you tap on the bowl and it stops, then run it, and keep your eye on it.

Thank you Hillside

You were correct, I took it apart, cleaned everything, and all is well now.
