The "M" and "R" buttons on the dash, is that just for the tach or both tach and speedo?

"M" is a mode button that scrolls through the clock, Odometer, Trip 1, Trip 2, and Fuel trip counters. "R" resets the Trip counters.

Ok, I though they were Memory and Replay, to record some time on the instruments.
Thanks for setting me straight.

My saddlebags came in Friday ( been almost 2 months), been raining and basically crappy weather for over 2 weeks so I haven't had the time to ride the X. Decided to make a short run this weekend to test the bags. Buell states there is no speed restriction on the X with the bags installed, I ran from Maine to Mass. averaging a strong 80mph on the way down Sat. Wicked cold ( running the stock flyscreen/winshield ), with the right gear and the brush guards the high 30 degree temp was tolerable. I set the rear preload up two clicks from my norm for the bag weight with no changes to the damping or rebound. The bags are very light and HUGE, measuring about 40" at their widest point (the front of the bags). They mount on a slight angle with a narrowing to the rear. I found no handling issues as far as the bike goes with the bags attached. On the way back today, I ran a good 85mph avg. with the occasional triple digits (not exceeding 110) and again found no problems with the handling related to the bags. I tried some two-up to check the passenger foot to bag clearance as the bag is so close to the rear footrest, when you fold them up, the bag will touch the peg. Depending on the size of the passengers boot, this could be an issue. Removal and installation is a drop in and latch with a lock and at this point feels secure. The 40" width requires keeping the bags in mind when threading through traffic. This was tested in Salem today as anyone who lives in the area can attest to, can be a parking lot in the city as all the freaks are around for the Halloween festivities. I didn't rub any cages but did do a couple of curbs and sidewalks (urban weapon).
My run Sat. night in the cold finished in Salem, Ma., with the last 20 or so miles in the (f*n cold rain) and snow on the sides from the flurries during the day. I kept wiping my shield to make sure it wasn't freezing. I had slowed it down to the 50mph range on the highway and could see a bit of slush in the fast lane (I was traveling in what looked like a wet only slow lane). Getting off the ramp was a bit harrowing as it was slushy, I slowed enough to comfortably whack the throttle, checking traction. It was there and I felt better. I did the same on the rear brake and found the same result. I am happy with the new Dunlops that came on the bike with the exception of the swimming in the front that I won't know if it's the tire till I change them in the spring.
2200 miles and I'm afraid there will not be much more riding this season on the X. Already thinking of spring.

Sounds like the bags are a winner. Can't wait till mine get here. Mine were ordered on Sept 25th (when I picked up the bike). I was in there Friday and no bags yet. My partner and I are taking a business trip up to Atlanta on Thursday and wanted to ride up on the bikes. Guess I'll have to soft saddlebag it. Do you remember exactly the date you ordered? If mine take as long, it would be nice to try and figure out when I can expect them.

I told the dealer to get them when I ordered the bike. He told me they are shipped from Germany and there is a 30 day lead time, (that's why I ordered before I recieved the bike). Then they were back ordered. I've had the bike for about 2 months and ordered the bags about two weeks before that. I hope yours get here quicker.

Got a call from the dealer today. They said that Harley confirmed that the bags shipped on Friday and should be here Wed or Thurs. Man, I can't wait!

Baggersport,
The "swimming" sensation over certain road surfaces is a commnon complaint among Ulysses owners...it's the tread pattern on the 616's.

This site is not that active for Uly owners. I only visit here once a month or so. You may want to go to www.badweatherbikers.com (big, bad & dirty section) or http://www.advrider.com/forums/ (beasts section). There are a lot of owners and opinions on the Ulysses over there.

I've had my Uly for about 2 months now. It is an enjoyable ride for fun and a great commuter.
