Question Buell 5 speed stuck in gear HELP!!!

It's actually a 1995 sportster, but the tranny is the same. I went to ride and the bike would not down shift. I limped it two blocks home in 3rd gear. When I took the primary cover off I saw a broken spring that released a pawl that in turn allowed the bike to down shift. I replaced it and put it all back together, but still no down shifting. I opened it up a 2nd time and even took the clutch plates out and it seems to work okay when I rotate the shifter shaft, but when together it still won't shift. Up or down, well I don't know what gear it's in so it appears not to shift up, but it could be in 5th with no gear left to shift up to. Any ideas on where to go next?

No I didn't know I was supposed to. I looked through a friends manual and might have missed it. What is the adjustment for the pawl? And Thanks for the response!!

This is out of a 1993 - 1994 manual but should still apply to your motor. G'luck and hope this helps. You can view them by going to http://www.hr3rdgen.org/gallery/show...cat/3025/page/

Hope this helps you out!
