New Buell

Traded my sporty in on a CityX. Didn't like the sporty for a variety of reasons, and I wanted something that handles really well. I thought about getting a balls out Japanese bike, but I remembered from my days as a cobra owner that there are only so many places that you can go that fast, and none of them are legal. So I decided on getting something with a little less HP, but that focused on being fun. As a bonus, the Buell is almost comfortable enough to ride all day.

As soon as I got on it, I know that I'd made the right choice. as a damned inexperienced rider, after only a short time on the bike, i can stop at lights and not put my feet down for a few seconds, and I can make some unbelieveably tight u-turns. It's not my ability, it's all the bike. I can't wait to get back home and finish the break-in on it so I can have it serviced and then really go have some fun on it.

Pics to follow at some point. I was too busy riding to take any.

Still need to figure out how to get some bags on it for longer trips. And the super quiet muffler has to go. I don't want it too loud, but I want to be able to hear it.

04rubi: Congrats on your new bike! everything I've seen from owners of the CityX is that they love the bike (aside from allegedly difficult maintenance of the plastic)

Tireater: A Buell conversion? you mean transplanting a Buell engine into a cruiser or hardtail frame?

I'll admit I like the Redneck Engineering Mutant bikes, but there is something sad about taking such an iconic bike as a Buell and destroying it to create a chopper out of it.

If I were in the market for another bike, I'd be hard pressed to chose between a Buell XB12R or a HD Road Glide. For now, I'll stick with my Buell Blast and my Superglide, get the best of both worlds, cruising/touring and bombing around town...

The Buell is a little too sporty for me. Looking for a crashed model. I am going to build a bike that is harder to ride fast...
With a tank shift and twist clutch, I just need a project...I get too much time off...

hmm..twist clutch (left hand), tank shift (left hand), right hand busy with the throttle....how many arms you got Tireater? LOL

Most tank shift bikes are foot clutch. If your twist clutch has a detent so it can stay in the disengaged position so you can hand shift, then release the clutch, then I can see it. it would be pretty trick if you can get it to work!

DOH! forgot about that possibility...

Just please don't scrap a good Buell to build it, try to use a salvage bike or something, these bikes are going to get real rare real quick...

I hope you're right but how do you figure regarding their impending rarity?

The tube frame bikes tend to get scrapped for their engine to build sportster-choppers. There may not be a shortage now, but you have to start thinking conservation BEFORE they get rare

I figured that's where you were going. That and the fact alot of birds are parting 'em out on ebay hand over fist is paring them down as well. Still alot of tube frame bikes out there. I believe to the tune of around 11,000+ for the X1 model line. 3,665 base model X1s from '99-'02.My original intent was to get a donor bike and do the same with a Redneck Eng chassis. After having the bike for a couple of weeks, I couldn't bring myself to do it if someone gave me the parts. It's a beautifully engineered motorcycle! It being just about as nice as new doesn't hurt matters either. Although it could stand to be a little lower in seat height.
