Buell Ulysses in Cycle World

It didn't make their top ten, but in David Edward's 'Up Front' section, under the heading, "Best Cross-Dresser: Buell Ulysses, they said this.

"Maybe the most unlikely machine of the year, a new-age adventure-bike powered by an air-cooled V-twin with roots that run back to 1957. Is it a standard, a dual-sport, a sport-tourer, a supermoto? Yes, and then some. One of us called it the best American motorcycle ever. That'll do."

I was looking at one of those before I pulled the trigger on a FXDL. Problem is the seat height is way high. I have a 32" inseam and can barely touch the ground. Reminds me of the Triumph Tiger. Too bad they didn't lower the seat height just a little. Other than that, a really nice bike.

Did you asked the dealer if you could try the Uly with the lower seat?

My wife has a Blast (I know, nowhere near the same thing), and I'm impressed with the Buell quality. My dealer stopped carrying Buell, but the next time I'm in LA, I'm going to see if I can test ride a Ulysses.

Didn't realize there was such an animal. The sales guy should have mentioned it when I told him it was way too tall. Can't cry now, money was already spent. Maybe next time. Thanks for the heads up.

Having rode both if seat height was a concern you made the right choice with the FXDLI, I rode one with the lower seat this weekend and while better than stock its still a tiptoe ride and I'm 6'0".

I'll wait and see what I can pick up on the used market next year unless they come out with a ~900cc version next year

used Buell's are almost give aways.

the local dealer had a white firebolt on the floor a year.

they KILLED me on my XBSLOW (900 low) on trade in for a RK.

it was WICKED fun though.

i'd surf out www.badweatherbikers.com and bike trader, you can find them cheap.

wife won't ride the lightning with me, why sold.

it worked best on one wheel, either front or back, but never both...GIT SUM!
