2002 X1 W coming out of retirement....
I have this X1 that has been put away a few years and I'm thinking about getting it back on the road. I've been out of it for a while, could you guys please point me in the right direction regarding engine modifications that can be done on a 2002 Buell?
Thanks a lot for any input.

I think for ultimate enjoyment, safety and to cut down on green house gasses, that you should get yourself a new bike. A V-rod would do it, or a new 1125R.
As for this one, I could take it off your hands for you and help make space in your garage...LOL!
Actually, that's a nice looking older Buell! NRHS might be a good place to look for proven mods. Good luck.

Thanks for the recommendation, I had a look at NRHS and they have a nice 1250cc kit available (also a 88ci kit but to get everything to work properly would cost me 5-6k!!!!).
The only problem seems to be with the ECM programming, there isn't much available with ECM spy for older Buells (that I have found so far anyway).

1) Check that the recall for the rear shock absorber has been performed. Alot of the tube frame Buells had problems with the rear shock leaking and possibly breaking. I don't remember if the shock on that bike is the replacement or not.
2) Don't replace the header, they don't make aftermarket headers like that, unless you get it coated by Jet-Hot or similar. Does it have a good aftermarket can?
I see it has the Crossroads Performance pully cover...good score there...American Sporttwin has alot of billit goodies for the tube frame bikes.
Any of the sporty-based engine mods should work; big-bore, stroker, etc etc
Of course adding a perfomace cam and headwork will really kick a$$
I say fuel it and ride it...its a beautiful bike!

Thanks for the reply. I have a Works performance shock in the back. The exhaust is a Force race pipe, it's a one piece, Jet-Hot coated, ready for a big bore. I checked out a few 1250cc kits, some come with cams and everything, the only problem is that maps using ECM spy are not readily available. Anyway, I'm not in a rush right now, I started taking it apart to powdercoat a lot of parts flat black.

Wish I still had my X1 too. I miss that bike.
However, I made the new owner promise He would never destroy it by turning it into
one of those idiotic buell choppers.
