Tuner or tuning an '08 XB12R
My neighbor just bought a new XB12R.
He's not smart on fuel injection, tuners, or ecm's.
The bike has 400 miles and he took it back to dealer for a check up because it's running rough, he thinks it's too rich.
The HD dealer has told him Buells are not like HD's, telling him they could put a new ECM on it that would self-adjust, or self-tune no matter what mods you did to it. Dealer also said no software or maps were needed.
I have a Road King with a power commander, so I am wondering if the dealer is full of it, or maybe there is a tunner/ecm for Buells that will do this magic.
Thanks for your help in explaining this to me.
Ned

as of last fall, the only tuner i could find that worked with hte xb12 was from technoesearch. customers bike had the harley "race" ecm, and pinged like crazy . direct-link from technoresearch worked well.

ECMspy also works well, and is used widely around the Buell community. It allows you to remap your stock ECM or allows you to copy a race ECM into your stock ECM.
Very neat program! But ya gotta know what your doing before you start messing around with your mapping inside your ECM!

The Buell is under warranty,a call to Buell is warranted if your local dealer(whom you must give them a chance to fix any warranty issues)cant find out the problem.Running rough is not a sign of anything-other than it is running rough.Without diagnosis by a competent factory trianed tech,it's all just assumption. The fact you opined he's not smart-may also indicate a lack of experience with Motorcycles,or riding in general.before we beat down the dealer--they need to check it out.
Safe riding!

I wouldn't say the dealer is full of it....but I know of no magic tuning ECM.....and as stated above there are options for tuning the stock ecm Direct Link is fairly well known, but, we just used the ECMSpy this weekend and I feel it is superior compared to the Direct Link.

I dont know of any thing that "self adjusts" you would still have to do some kind of work IE make a A/F table for the bike to adjust to! My buddy has an 08 and has been lookin for a tuner for his and he "claims" he read something about a REMUS POWERIZER????? he said they claim it to self adjust....guess we'll see exactly what it is when he gets it lol! I personally think harley and buell need to step up and just make a super tuner for buell models how cool would that be!

ECMspy Search it an download it. It's free but you need a cable to use it. It gives you full control over the ECM.

The only catch - "Current year race license required to purchase."

I have one bike now that I am working with ecm spy for tuning, if all works out I may be looking for other bike to tune. At this point the tuning is slow vs the learning curve with this tuning system.

dose any one know of some one who has the race ecm specs or some one that can do the work. I can use a computer and work with electronic engines but would have no idea were to start reworking a fuel map and so on. I have an 09 XB12R and I realy feal like it wants to run better but is being held back. I expected a lot more compared to the xb9 I road befor. I plan to do a filter and exhaust but I dont think that will be enough. thanks for any help.
