Blast

Bought a used Blast for the wife a little while back. She rides some, but not a bunch. Thought I might keep it to bomb around on a little. Anyone done any carb work on one. It's so gutless on the low end. Gotta be able to do something to pick it up a bit.

Best thing for a Blast is to put an aftermarket pipe on it (Vance and Hines, Jardine, D&D) , an K&N air filter insert, and rejet to

Info shamelessly stolen from Badweb
Stock Jetting
2000 - 2001 42/165
2002 - 2004 42/170

For exhausts that are aftermarket - 45 primary
175 Main

For the Kerker - 45 primary, & 165 to 170 main (until you cut the crossover tube off, run directly from the header the can of your choice - instant top performing system - then you would run the 45/46 primary, & 175 to 180 main)

WB/Force/ & any true performance exhaust with a min. of 1 3/4" od header in combination w/low to no restriction exhaust can:
45/46 primary & 175 Main & shim needle 0.050"

Note 1) 180 main may be a little rich for some exhausts.
Note 2) if live and dwell above 3500 ft - 44 primary
170 main
Final Jetting notes:
Actually a lot of my jetting knowledge is from my various dynos and my observations - hardly a rush - over a year to decide I was still running pretty lean over - all.

My recommendation these days would be:

Stock - 45/170

Exhaust change only - 45/175

Exhaust and intake - 48/180

All at sea level - at above 3500ft. I would have a different answer.

I'd also recommend an Irridium plug - especially the racing - for a more complete burn - you'll instantly notice the difference.

Rockbiter,
Can you say what is the best exhaust system for the buel. one that has the tq and all around performance.. i did see a D&D and the money they get for that complete system is as hig as it is for a big twinn.. bu ti guess if it works it don't matter.. also is the vance and hanies slip on a god deal.. and about the airfilter.. is there a # for it and is iut one that fits inside the stock airbox?? am picking up an 02 tommorrow and just may mess with it a bit.. still want the reliability and mpg pretty much too if thats possible.. also is there a metal part that replaces the compliance fittng that goes from the carb to motor?? anyway as you can tell this a bit new to me but have been into the harleys for a lot of years so far i have had 16 ofum and the one i now have is a CVO Roadking..
Thanks Happy

There is infact a direct-fit K&N filter, BU-5000. The retail price is as high as $65 and as low as $45, depending on where you buy. It should last the life of the bike, properly taken care of.

As for the exhaust, the "bullet proof" setup (which I cannont afford) is a Jardine header with a D&D can. Its supposed to be the best mix of durability, performance, and sound.

There is no metal compliance fitting to my knowledge, but some people have had success with a 2" turbo hose. The key is really proper installation and torque. If you overtighten the hose clamps, you'll be more likely to damage the coupler.

Personally, I run a complete Pro-Series setup, intake, cam, and exhaust. I still need head work, but the bike runs like a pissed off chihuahua :P

Please note, the more the bike is modified, the lower the fuel effeciancy will be. I'm currently getting around 55mpg with my bike, but I ride in the top of my rpm band (thats where my cam and pipe work best, it will be diffrent on your bike)
