Great Experience with a VTF Sponsor
Some of you may have read my recent post where I busted spark plug off in the rear head. I was left with several options.
First, the plug threads were about welded into the head. So after removal, I’m sure I would have been left with threads repaired with some sort of insert. I didn’t like that idea at all.
The dealer offered me a take off head, from someone who had gone to the SE heads. It was a fair offer, but of course there is no way of knowing whether it had come off a bike pre-delivery, or if I’d end up with a set of valves with 50,000 miles on them.
Springer and Baggersport (Bean) from this board, and more importantly from Big Boyz Cycles solved the whole problem. Bean got me a set of the right heads immediately, for only $500.00. These of course had the advantage of new valves, and his porting. On top of that, he gave me $100.00 for my take-offs, bringing the total price to only $400.00. He made the entire transaction 100% quick and painless. I needed the heads right away, as the shop was squeezing me into their schedule to do the work, and he had them to me the next day via UPS.
My bike is a 2004 Road King Classic and is basically stock. It has only the SE air cleaner and the Stage 1 download, so the porting was not part of some grand scheme in my case. For that reason I cannot give anything in the way of statistics or dyno charts. However, Upon picking the bike up, I felt like the power was “fuller” if that makes any sense. It just had more power across the band, in each gear.
Over the past three days, a friend and I took our bikes for a trip up through the Black Hills, Montana and North Dakota. He also has a Road King Classic, with the exact same set up, but his is a 2005. His bike was always a little faster than mine in roll-on acceleration. This was just the difference between one bike and another as they came off the assembly line. Not a great difference, but consistent nonetheless. This would show up in a game we’ve always played where from the time we’d see the sign at a state line, we’d both accelerate to be the first one into the next state. We ride side-by-side, so it’s in essence a race with a starting speed of somewhere around 75 MPH. My only hope before was to be the first one to see the sign, and get the jump on him. However, those days are over. Now, the slight added boost has made all the difference. The only thing changed were the heads.
I’m sure that if used in an application designed to take better advantage, these heads would be as good as any you could get. Equally important is the fact that a sponsor of this site has a great product and provides great service, all at a great price.
