Springer - Tried to PM you - but your box is full...
Post here instead - nothing secret
Hi Springer
How would the Andrews 31 cam work in an otherwise stock TC96 ?
Another question. I still have the 06 heads you ported for me earlier this year (never got them installed)
Now I have a 08 Ultra on order and the 06 for sale
Is it possible for you to modify the front head to accept the new 08 engine mount .. And will it otherwise work ?? IF possible - it could allso be an option to CC the heads to 10,1:1 compression that the 31 cams should run with (according to Andrews website)
Best regards

Hi Bob, Compression for the 31 should be around the 10.0:1 range. We are in the process of setting up to machine the front heads for the '08 front engine mount but the heads must be the newer castings (Mercury) to do it. I can look through your paperwork and check what you have for compression now, you'll have to look at the heads to see if they are the Merc castings. I could pass the info onto a machinist local to you if the mod can be done to the heads you have.

Hi Bean
Casting uhh --- I know they were from a 06 bike - that doesn't say enough ? - If no - what do I look for ?
At the time you did my heads - they were not cc'ed or milled - just portet
If my heads are the right casting I would prefer to spend som $$ on shipping.. I have absolutely NO idea who would be able to do the job here - and after all cc'ing and milling will be nescessary to make the CR right
Will it be nessecary with compression releases for 10:1 CR - and are there other drawbacks doing this ?? (Stock 96" , Adrews 31 cams Big Boyz street portet heads, 10:1 CR)

It would have a symbol that looked like this on top of the head. Without the words, just the symbol with the M and the waves under it.

Those are not mercury cast heads Bob. The Mercury logo is located in the rocker box area where the pushrods come through.

How about a pic of that logo on a head if you have a set around. I would much rather get a set of take offs for my build but the 08's are pretty hard (impossible) to find...

Here is a picture of the Mercury logo. Note it is located between the valve guides on the top of the head.
Another way to tell if they are Mercury heads is by the casting numbers. The old style heads have larger raised letters and the Mercury heads have a much finer lettering.
The first picture is the OLD style heads.
This picture is the NEW Mercury head.

Here are the differences in the heads.
1. You can see the fins have been shortened to add room for the boss (#2 in the picture) that the new front engine mount bracket bolts to for the '08 touring models. All the Mercury cast heads have the boss but only the '07 Police and '08 Touring have the holes drilled and tapped for the front bracket.
3. Shows the other boss for the front engine mount bracket. Note the curve in the Mercury head. This makes it easy to identify.
Here is a picture of the Mercury cast head with the bosses machined, drilled and tapped for the front engine mount.

If you guys remember me....
You did some 05 heads for me and supplied SE flattops, cometic gasket etc.
I'm still chain drive and was looking to change the cams out for something better suited for my set up, the 211's were cheap but my motor wasn't up to them with the pipes I run.
Which would go better, the 31 or 37? ( I was going to go with a HQ 0034 's)
Jon
