Help Replacing Front Fork Cover

I just picked up a chrome fork cover to replace the aluminum one on my '05 Fatboy. I saw several posts on here from older model owners concerning the procedure for removing the headlight wiring, and I was wondering if the process still holds true for the '05's ? Do I need to unbolt the gas tank to slide it back to be able to unplug the headlight wire ? And, in order to get to the back bolt on the gas tank, does that also mean removing the seat as well ? I don't want to do any wire cutting or splicing in the process.

Thank loads, Bob
