And proud of it!!!
Well my name is Jim from Concord, NH. I have a 01 Fat Boy that "was" Diamond Ice but is right at this moment apart and is back to the sheet metal stage after sanding it down with an orbital sander because I am taking on the task of painting it myself.
I've sprayed all my life in furniture factory's, I worked in the finish department of a "Casket Shop" about 33 yrs ago, my Dad was the Supervisor and I did every job from staining to rubbing and polishing them to a glass finish. So that's going to come in handy when I have to wet sand my clear and polish it. Already know about burning through and easy on the corners etc.
I'm going to paint it with the marblizing technique. I just ordered all the paint today at my local Auto shop, there is a HOK sales place in the next City Manchester so I got my marblizing paint, the Kandy Blue that I'm using to go over the marblizer and I'm getting the clear through them instead of paying $380.00 a gallon from HOK (House of Kolor). And HOK only sells clear by the gall. so the paint dude said that I may only need a quart for the amount of parts I'm painting so it would be crazy to buy a whole gallon for that money. So I got two quarts from him and can return what I don't use.
I'm not sure if I am able to post pics because I'm not a paying member but if I can I will post some of them once I get them uploaded to my laptop. I took some shots of before I started with the tins off, then with them sanded and I will document the complete process from start to finish. I think it will be fun to have the memory's to look back on.
I sure have my fingers crossed it comes out good!!! I'm not worried about spraying it, if it was just one color I'd be all set but taking on the marblizing might be a little more than I thought?!? I'm sure it will come out ok and if it doesn't well I'll just buy some chameleon paint and shoot it with that.
Well if anyone has any input on painting or any hints about the technique I'm using I would appreciate them no matter what they are.
LOVE THE FAT BOY!!!!
I've had a Road King, Dresser, and now the Fat Boy which I traded my 1996 Corvette for. Even steven trade. The Vette booked out for $19,000.00 and the Fat Boy for $14,000.00 but the Vette needed about 5 or 6 grand worth of work so it worked out great for an even trade and he had some nice chrome and Corbin seat as well as ThunderHeader pipes which is what I had on my Road King I sold a couple years earlier. Love those pipes!!!
Anyone have a problem in their State with Inspections and noise levels????
They are really cracking down in this state with a 106 max db reading and last year when the tech tried to do the reading it went over to 107 and he flunked me, well after reading the law on the Internet about how the test is supposed to be done I went back to my Dealership and told them they did the test wrong and to please do it again the right way. I know the GM there and was joking but serious as well. Well they did it over again and it passed. Just curious if anyone else has had any issues with that?
Well, nice to be with other Fat Boy owners, sure is my favorite bike that I've had.
