XL4me is on a distinguished road
I just took off the bottom and 1/4 of the back.
It will still mount fine, still hold the air filter element.

What I was thinking is that the airflow is dorked up, because of the air can completely flow across the bottom of the filter and have a siphon effect on air trying to get in to the element.

I (at that exact moment in time, with a dremel in my hand) thought that the small snorkel opening would just not flow enough air. This is an '05 Sportster, with a small stupid snorkel on the bottom of the ham can...

btw, everything for the 04, 05 and 06 is way more expensive, than every other year (never mind back in the day...), I would be happy if I can get a new backing plate for under $10.00, but would be suprised, also.

THANKS, I am going to order the rest of the parts soon, and would rather build a part, than buy it (although it has been a few years since I wrenched), but if the shrink-wrapped Ness part is just going to do a better job...
