I got a "new" used backing plate, from ebay. Going to get a K&N. Took a dremel and basically cut the "snorkel-thing" off the bottom.
I cut the entire bottom off..., the bottom of backing plate is now right in line with the bottom of the stock filter. The entire bottom 1/4 of the backing plate doesn't exsist any more.
I'm wondering if I went too far ? If I dorked this up, I may just part with the bucks and get a Ness. Whatda ya think ????

Why did you do that? What did you think you'd gain? Part of the part you hacked off is what holds the backing plate to the bike. You've basically screwed it... I wouldn't scrap the entire thing over the backing plate though. Just buy a new backing plate (only $8 for standard and about $30 for chrome or wrinkle black) and install it. You'll be fine.
