If the new spring increases the relief valve opening pressure by 5 pounds or so it will benefit only after the stock pressure is reached. And I thought with all the reports of single number pressures at idle that the new spring would only benefit at higher rpm's. Or is that measuring pressure at a different location than a typical pressure guage?

It raises pressure across the board....at idle and at speed. In your case, though, If it ain't broke, don''t fix it.
