What I did on mine is remove the peg from the rear arm not the whole arm. That way I have the room on the floor boards and can still heel shift. Sounds like you would have problem heel shifting but you don't. I have the chrome HD slotted shifter arms so maybe that helps becasue they are a little wider than the stock ones.
