also wait for the ecu to go thru it's start-up routine.
Try waiting until it is completely ready to start, then on your PC, click on Get ECM Info. See if it will return the VIN number. If it will do that and all of your connections are good and you do have a Com port selected, there is no reason it shouldn't upload a map.
Are you sure you have the Diagnostics connector plug completely snapped into place? All your other connections are tight?
I had the error msg once, the first time I tried it and it was because I forgot to swith the Kill Switch to RUN. There! I admitted it.
