I started out with a Sportster, and traded to a soft tail when I started doing more distance riding - sporty was just too hard on my old bones - rattled my teeth any time I got over 55 mph. I never looked at it like a chick bike, and can tell you the softie is a lot easier to ride than the sporty was - so I don't get the relationship. When I see somebody on the highway on a sporty, I just admire the heck out of them.
To each his own - as long as you're on a Harley, that's what counts.
