If you don't have the $$$ for a Zippers kit then here is MY suggestion. I performed this conversion myself in MY garage with very limited knowledge, a basic toolset, and a Clymer's Manual. Here is what I did.
Found a set of Ross forged 9.75:1 reverse dome pistons on eBay. These babies were SWEET. I'd suggest buying new from Ross though...eBay was a risk and they had the wrong rings when I got them. But to give Ross some deserved praise...they sent me the new rings FREE no questions asked. I even told them I bought the set from eBay and they didn't care.
Anyways. Brought my cylinders up to a reputable machinest and he bored/honed them to match each piston (make sure you know WHICH piston goes with WHICH cylinder).
Had some flow work done by a guy I know that does head work on racing boat motors (basic clean up job...no major mods to the heads).
Bought a top end gasket kit from James Gaskets.
Brought all this home and decided I wanted a black/highlighted engine...so I painted the heads and cylinders myself with high-temp black ceramic rattle can. Worked great. Used a "dremel" type tool to highlight the fins individually.
Put it all back together (make sure the ring gaps are spaced properly) and believe it or not...it fired RIGHT UP.
Those break in miles were a b*tch, but MAN...what a difference. ANYONE that is even considering this 1200 upgrade should stop wasting time and just DO IT already.
I spent around $350 TOTAL on the conversion...because I did the assembly myself. It was VERY straight forward. Get a Clymer's manual and get to work.
Here are some pics of the engine I built and painted myself.
