from kelley blue book...
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the unit has been fully reconditioned and is in excellent condition. Mileage/condition and additional equipment may have a substantial impact on the value shown above. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the unit's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions.
it is a dealer asking price...dealers generally get more for vehicles because they warranty them and have an obligation to stand behind what they sell...in addition they have expenses an outright seller does not...thats not to say the right person at the right time wont pay a private seller that amount but it may be a longshot...
your best bet is to take it to the dealer and find out what they will give you...regardless of what you paid it is a used bike now and will not command them the same kind of money you paid when they sell it...they are entitled to a profit...but...if they see it as a bike they may be able to sell more readily than the big bore i am assuming you are going to take off their floor (preferably another 08)...they may just surprize you....
it never hurts to try...walk away with a friendly comment that you expected more and dont turn around...you might have a message on your answering machine when you get home with a different figure on it...they are going to test you before anything....test them...theyre just doing their job...be better at it than them and you could come out a winner...
