I'm guessing that what you're hearing is your exhaust as well especially if you're just cruising along. Try rolling into the throttle between 2-3K in different gears and see if you can hear anything coming from the engine and not the exhaust. Turn your head sideways and it will help to cut down on the wind noise also.
