As the value of mode 23 is decreased the so called "Dead" feeling increases. Vance and Hines claims that this action cuts the fuel to the injectors a lot sooner as you close your throttle. As a result of making this adjustment, decel popping went away. However, I did not like the increased "Dead" feeling, so I decided to make an adjustment in the opposite direction. The "Dead" feeling went away, but decel popping returned. I eventually decided to leave it at the manufacturers recommended setting. I've gotten so use to the "Dead" feeling during decel, it doesn't even bother me anymore. I've put 3,000 miles on the fuel pak since then and the scoot still runs and performs beautifully. As far as the "Dead" feeling being harmful to the engine, there is no evidence that this is the case. I hope this helps.
