".....Pretty sure you already have 3.37 gearing. HD went to 3.15 in 2003......"

--------

It's much easier to explain the 3.37 gearing this way, the only recent TOURING BIKES to come from Harley Davidson with the 3.37 gearing were the '99-'00-'01 Touring bikes with EFI and during these years the EFI was the "MM". The carb touring bikes were geared with 3.15 gearing. Hope this helps.

In 2002 Harley Davidson changed the EFI system to "Delphi" which is when the gearing for both the EFI and Carb Touring Bikes was all the same....3.15

The reason that in 99, 00, 01 lowered the gearing for the MM EFI was that HD was marketing the EFI as a "Option" creating a "buzz" with the idea of going to EFI...but because of the 'limitations" of the MM EFI they couldn't "market" an option for what approx $775.00 and have the general market test drive one and find that it couldn't stay up with the Carb bikes....

What I would be curious about is how long it took the "message boards" back in 99 to realize the difference....maybe not too long if they had their part's books....lol

It seems like this gearing really caught on as a "change" or "modification" to do around 2003 or so with most riders on a larger scale.....
