Is a gallon and a 1/2 enough for what the purpose is? Just curious as i am not too familiar with the salt , but dont you do a couple miles out than back in with some idle time in between?

1 1/2 gallons should be fine for making a few passes at Bonneville, if I need to fill-up I would just have the tanks resealed. They seal the tank once you buy there gas on the records running on gas so no there is no unfair advantage.
