They make them "sorta" cool on purpose!
I'm not a hater but the game has been to make them almost right for years. If they made the battery cover sexy out of the box you wouldn't cough up $389 to be the first guy with the steel chrome or powder coated one they will undoubtedly sell as an accessory by spring. Sort of like the afterthought of a tailight on bobtail fender softails for over ten years...
It's all part of the plan.
