Milwaukee's lakefront that is....

An annual algae bloom and an unusual SE wind have combined to give the lakefront park where the H-D celebration will be held a distinctly (pardon the pun) unpleasant odor. Beachgoers are few are far between these days, despite sunshine and temperatures in the high eighties. Why? It really does smell that bad.

The algae bloom is caused, people have speculated, by an increase in phosphorous and nitrogen levels in lakewater, in large part brought about by agricultural run-off; but also by periodic discharges from the city's vaunted "deep tunnel" sewer project.

If you are planning on going to the Sunday concert (as I am), please pray for a strong wind from the west.

we are familiar with the condition on the small pond, lake ontario. looks like a few fronts are gonna pass through in the next week or so and maybe itll help clear things up. with the prevailing winds from the west at least we're gonna be on the better side of the lake. i gotta feeling we'll be bringing in a few smells of our own when we put that many people in one place.
