Now in its second year, our MOBO awards selections process gives us the chance to reflect on the year that was. And for 2010, the spotlights were generally shining on European manufacturers which continued to pump out desirable product while most Japanese OEMs crawled into a hole to wait out the near-global recession.
Brands like Aprilia, BMW, Ducati and Triumph haven't slowed the launching of new models, and this forging ahead in the midst of a storm has resulted in gains of market share. It's also provided us with several interesting new bikes to ride. Perhaps most interesting of all are the bikes in the paradigm-shifting electric motorcycle movement that's rapidly gathering momentum. Progress in this category will come quickly as new technology takes great leaps forward.
Although the two-wheel market isn't what... [Read More]

» Harley-Davidson Sells MV Agusta |
|
Aug 06, 2010 - 1:53 PM - by Admin
|
Harley-Davidson has sold MV Agusta to the Castiglioni family, the Italian brand's former owner. Terms of the sale were not released but the ownership change is effective immediately.
Claudio and Giovanni Castiglioni have repurchased 100% of the shares of MV Agusta from Harley-Davidson. Former Ducati engineer Massimo Bordi will also hold a prominent position in MV Agusta. Bordi worked with the Castiglionis when they owned Ducati.
"MV Agusta is the crown jewel of Italian motorcycles, I am thrilled to have completed this transaction," says Claudio Castiglioni. "I have already won once together with Massimo Bordi, we made the most beautiful bikes in the world and we will continue with this tradition."
Castiglioni sold MV Agusta to Harley-Davidson in 2008 for approximately $109 million including... [Read More]

» 2011 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide Ultra Review |
|

It's a tough economy out there for a lot of us, causing a precipitous drop in motorcycle sales over the past two years. However, those with deep pockets and shrewd investments always seem to have disposable income for a new toy in their garage.
Well-heeled riders such as these don't choke when they are told the $35,999 MSRP of the 2011 CVO Road Glide Ultra. If you're trying to eke out another 500 miles from your old KLR650's tires, perhaps you're not the customer the CVO group is targeting.
According to Harley, the average age of a CVO customer is 54-55, right in their prime earning years. Harley research reveals that CVO customers buy $3,500 of accessories on average, roughly double that of the average H-D OE customer despite the CVOs already being fantastically tricked out.
Like last year's CVO... [Read More]

» 2011 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Ultra FLTRU |
|
Jul 30, 2010 - 12:08 PM - by Admin

Bigger is better. It's the American way, and for 2011 Harley-Davidson, America's leading motorcycle manufacturer, made Big Twin engines for select models a little bit bigger—and better.
For the 2011 standard models lineup (non-CVO models), H-D has unveiled the Twin Cam 103, an over-bored version of the tried-and-proven TC96. The new engine powers several of Harley's top-flight baggers, among them the all-new FLTRU Road Glide Ultra. Only The Motor Company's exclusive CVO line (stay tuned for reports on those high-end models) with their 110-inch engines offer more displacement among bikes wearing the Bar & Shield logo. The new TC103 is a result of increasing the TC96's bore from 3.750" to 3.875".
Before we snoop through the FLTRU's spacious saddlebags and Tour Pak, and poke and prod at its... [Read More]
